Patient Instructions

Winchester Orthopaedic Associates, Ltd. will contact your insurance company to obtain pre-authorization for an exam. The office will schedule all diagnostic testing, referrals, and epidural steroid injections that were ordered by the physician. The office will then contact the patient via telephone or mail after this has been arranged. This process can take anywhere from 7 to 14 business days or longer.

Physical Therapy

Once you receive an order for Physical Therapy (usually via mail), you will need to contact any Physical Therapy facility of your choice. Confirm that they participate with your insurance and schedule a convenient appointment. Take your white order form to your first appointment. If you have any questions you may contact our office. Local providers are listed in the local area yellow pages under “Physical Therapists.” Many local hospitals also provide physical therapy on or near facility grounds.

CT Instructions:

CT Scan’s are scheduled at Winchester Medical Center. You do not need to make any special preparations for this examination. You may eat normally. Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment time. Please remember to take your signed Physician’s order form with you on the day of your appointment. Enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance and go directly to Registration. Follow the signs in the lobby.

MRI Instructions:

You do not need to make any special preparations for this examination. You may eat normally. For pre-screening questions you must call the testing facility three days or more prior to your appointment. Failure to do this may result in your test being rescheduled. Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment time. Please remember to take your signed Physician’s order form with you on the day of your appointment.

For patients scheduled at Winchester Medical Center you will need to call (540) 536-8988 to answering pre-screening questions. Enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance and go directly to Registration. Follow the signs in the lobby.

For patients scheduled at Winchester Open MRI, you will need to all (540) 545-4674 to answer pre-screening questions. Open MRI is located in the Trex Building at 160 Exeter Drive, Ste 104, Winchester, VA.

Hyalgan Injections:

You do not need to make any special preparations. You may eat normally. Hyalgan injections are given in a series of 3 to 5 injections and are given only once a week. These injections are done in the office and may be performed by a Physician Assistant.

Arthrogram Instructions:

You do not need to make any special preparations for this examination. You may eat normally. Arthrogram’s are scheduled at Winchester Medical Center. Enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance and register at the Outpatient Registration desk in the lobby. Arrive approximately 30 minutes before your appointment time. Have your insurance information with you. Please remember to take your signed Physician’s order with you.

Bone Scan Instructions:

You do not need to make any special preparations for this examination. You may eat normally. This is scheduled at Winchester Medical Center. Enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance and register at the Outpatient Registration desk in the lobby. Arrive approximately 30 minutes before your appointment time. Please have your insurance information with you.

The examination will be done in the Nuclear Medicine Department. At the time of your appointment you will be given an injection and the technologist will ask you to return to the Nuclear Medicine Department approximately three to four hours later for the remainder of the examination. During this time you may eat and drink normally. Imaging usually takes 45 minutes.

Please remember to take your signed physician’s order to registration the day of your appointment.

Dexa Scan (Bone Density Study)

Dexa Scan’s are scheduled at Winchester Medical Center. You should enter at the Diagnostic Center and register in the main lobby approximately 30 minutes before your appointment time.

These are the special instructions for your Scan:

  • You may eat normally.
  • Discontinue calcium supplements 24 hours before your scan.
  • No tests with barium or iodine for 7 days before your scan.
  • No metal on clothing the day of your test.
  • Please bring all insurance information with you.
  • Please remember to bring the signed Physician’s order form with you.

NOTICE: It is advisable for you to check with your insurance company to ensure that the cost of an exam is covered by your policy. This is not the responsibility of our office. The number to your insurance company is listed on the back of your insurance card.
